Post Treatment Advice

Bowen Therapy is usually relatively gentle to receive, although some moves may be a little uncomfortable when applied. Post-treatment, you may experience some of the following reactions-

  • Feeling tired/ sleepy
  • Being very energetic
  • Feeling thirsty
  • Burning sensation
  • Muscle Soreness
  • Mild Bruising

All of these reactions are normal and will pass in 2-3 days.

If your treatment also involved vacuum cupping you may have some cupping marks/ bruising.

To get the most from your treatment, there are a few simple precautions for you to observe during the first 24-36 hours after treatment.

1.    Drink plenty of water- you may find you are quite thirsty post treatment anyway. Repair requires hydration so drink at minimum one extra glass today

2.    Walk a minimum of 20 mins a day for the next 3 days to stimulate the Lymphatic system and minimise inflammation

3.    Avoid sitting for more than 30 mins at a time for the rest of the day, after your treatment. Even a quick lap of your kitchen will help

4.    Avoid extreme temperatures for next 24hrs this includes-

  • hot showers or baths
  • Saunas and Red Light
  • heat packs or ice packs
  • warming creams and Ice gels

5.    Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 2 days, gentle walking, swimming or yoga is ok.

6.    Avoid other forms of body work for at least 3-5 days i.e. massage (including self massage, therapy balls and therapy gun), physiotherapy, chiropractic etc.

7.    Do any exercises given to you by your Therapist. If you can do the exercises without assistance from the therapist then your overall treatment timeline can be greatly reduced.

8.   If after 5 days you are still experiencing symptoms please book in for another session- there is no point putting up with pain J
